What is this training about?

It can be really scary when your child is in distress and is harming themselves. There may be moments when you feel helpless, stuck or even angry. Children and young people have all sorts of reasons why they self-harm and often they will have different reasons at different times.

In this workshop, we will explore and understand why children self-harm. You will be supported to find ways of bringing more calm, joy and happiness into all your lives and grow your confidence while helping your child rediscover theirs.

Learn and deepen your understanding of self-harm and what your child may be experiencing:

  • Explore the impact on your own relationships
  • Find ways to support your child or young person

Who can attend this training?

The training is for all parents, parenting figures, carers, teaching staff, therapists, social workers and any other professionals who are supporting children and young people.

How does your online training work?

On payment of your training place, you will receive:

  • A link to the live training to access on the training date
  • Your certificate

How is your training presented?

We bring together an inspiring and innovative combination of theory, stunning original art work, lived experience examples and practical ideas. These will be delivered by our trainers over Zoom. We have digital support available on the day to ensure the training is problem free and straightforward.

About the trainers

Dr Shoshanah Lyons is the clinical director and founder of Beacon House. As a clinical psychologist she feels huge passion for understanding mental health and relationships through a developmental trauma lens. She is a promoter and advocate for trauma-informed health, education, social care and criminal justice.

Helen Townsend is the artist and Specialist Creative Designer here at Beacon House. She collaborates closely with Lucy to bring together specialist content into a creative, beautiful, resourceful online training experience. As an adoptive parent herself, Helen is inspired by her experience living with trauma and loss in how she portrays the learning through her artwork.

How do I book?

Please book online using the link. Everything you need for the training will be emailed to you prior to the live training day. Please ensure you are able to access Zoom and have updated the app (if using) prior to the training to ensure you can have a stress free start to your training with us.
