My work is trauma and attachment informed and systemic in nature. I have completed training in, and draw upon, a wide range of therapeutic models, including, but not limited to, Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and third-wave CBT approaches, such as Compassion-Focused Therapy (CFT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), systemic approaches and Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR).
As a clinical psychologist, I provide evidence based care, which means being guided by research, and what research tells us about which therapeutic models and approaches work for which presenting difficulties. Alongside this, I work with the person or people in front of me, to collaboratively develop a shared understanding of what has led them to seek therapeutic support now and their hopes, goals, expectations and preferences for support. This information, in combination with the evidence base and my clinical experience is used to collaboratively develop a plan for assessment and/or therapeutic support.
For me, the foundation of all therapeutic work is the relationship that develops between the professional (in this case me), our service and the person or people looking for therapeutic support. This is the starting point for every piece of work that I do. We know that therapeutic change only happens when someone feels safe, comfortable and ready. We also know that sometimes this takes time, and that is ok, we can go at the pace that works for you. If we work together I will take time to get to know you as an individual/individuals and your life as a whole, not just any ‘problem’ or area of difficulty that has led you to seek support. This includes hearing about your strengths and positive parts of your life and experiences that are present now or have been present in the past.
In addition to clinical work, I have extensive experience of service development, this includes setting up and evaluating new mental health services. In the UAE, I helped develop and was the lead psychologist for a new child and adolescent mental health service in Dubai. In Abu Dhabi I held the position of consultant and lead psychologist for a new specialist maternal mental health service. The outpatient service is operating successfully, and the mother and baby inpatient unit will be opening towards the end of 2026.
I have significant experience of providing clinical supervision, consultation and training to a wide range of professionals across a variety of settings. I also have experience of presenting at multiple conferences on a range of topics and as a guest lecturer at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience at Kings College London. I really enjoy supervision, consultation, teaching and training. I endeavour to ensure it is an interactive, dynamic and collaborative process and experience whether it is training, supervision, consultation or teaching. These all provide wonderful opportunities to meet and connect with new people. I love to hear from others about the work that they do and to share knowledge and information.
