My name is Helena and I work as a Clinical Psychologist with children and their families. I have many years of experience supervising assistant and trainee clinical psychologists, as well as therapy assistants. I have also provided consultation to those working with children and their families including, education and health professionals.
I have additional specialist training in DDP and EMDR, but my approach to supervision and consultation is integrative. I will meet you where you are in your own professional journey, whether you are needing a supportive guide to offer encouragement or a more directive approach. As clinical psychologists we work to map out clients’ difficulties and make sense of them in the context of their personal stories. We search for underlying meanings in their behaviour and to look for lasting solutions to those issues. It is a privileged position to be able to support people during some of the most challenging times of their lives.
Whilst we are on that journey with our clients there is the acknowledgement that the work can often be quite emotive. A significant aspect of my supervisory work is about exploring the transference, and about supporting supervisees’ own wellbeing. Whilst supervision is not a substitution for personal therapy, it should be a safe place to develop your skills and question your practice. I am a firm believer that we should apply the principles of PACE across all professional relationships and systems: to that end you will find supervision with me to stretch you (in the spirit of curiosity), with a acceptance and understanding of your own unique story and motivations, with a healthy dose of creativity and playfulness where-ever needed!
