As well as offering generic mental health input to schools, Beacon House offers a specialist ‘light touch’ attachment support service to schools who are meeting the needs of fostered and adopted children, and children with early trauma. For more information about our attachment support service please get in touch with us on 01444 413 939.
Each school’s mental health programme is designed specifically to meet their needs and their current resources. A typical programme will include a range of ‘indirect’ interventions with school staff, from the Teaching Assistants through to the Headteacher and SENCO. Indirect interventions including:
A range of training can be provided with the aims of (1) supporting school staff to identify the early signs of emotional difficulties and (2) skilling up staff to support the pupil in-house and (3) knowing when to bring in outside professional help. Topics we regularly train on include:
As part of our schools programme we offer regular consultation sessions to key members of staff around the needs of a specific pupil. The outcomes of the consultations relate to more effective ways to engage, support and nurture the pupil; all of which is hoped to increase the pupils’ ability to reach their learning potential.
Beacon House delivers direct psychological treatment within schools, which can often be an effective and responsive way to compliment school counselling services. Our child psychologists are able to offer specialist and evidence-based treatments for a range of simple to complex mental health needs. Treatments delivered in schools include:
Our psychological treatments can be offered 1:1, but can also be delivered to targeted groups of children. In a number of schools Beacon House has successfully delivered ‘coping skills’ workshops to groups of children.
Beacon House also regularly offers direct input for parents. This can be through delivering twilight or evening talks to parents on how to promote the emotional well-being of their child; or by offering direct consultation and therapeutic support to parents. At Beacon House we strongly believe that the best way to support a child’s well-being is to invite the parents’ in to be part of the solution.
Our Schools Programme is delivered by our Clinical, Counselling and Educational Psychologists as well as our very talented child psychotherapists.
