What is this training about?

This short seminar is aimed at extended family and close friends in the networks of parents who have adopted children or who are going through the assessment and approval process as adopters. This training is an introduction to the very complex subject of developmental trauma.

What are the learning aims?

  • What experiences do children have that lead them to be placed out of their birth families for adoption?
  • What are some of the consequences of these experiences? This is what we know as developmental trauma
  • What are adoptive parents advised to do differently than ‘typical’ parenting and why?
  • What can we, as family and friends, do to help?
  • What can we read/watch/do if we want to know more?

How long is the training?

10.30am - 12 noon

Who can attend this training?

This seminar is suitable for all family and friends who are supporting an adoptive family (ages 18+). No previous knowledge required. An open and curious mind would be an advantage – all questions welcome!
