Sensory Processing: what is it and why does it matter?

Trainer: Ruth Stephens, Paediatric Occupational Therapist

Children with sensory processing difficulties are over-sensitive or under-sensitive to the world around them. These children struggle to make sense of and organize ‘incoming information’. When overloaded with sensory information, these children dysregulate. This workshop offers an over-view of what sensory processing is and how it affects children’s day to day learning, emotions and behaviour when there are difficulties. The training will give participants practical strategies for supporting children with sensory over-load and will cover the topic of sensory diets.
