What is this training about?

Learn how to play with your child (or the children you work with) in ways that help support growth of their sensory systems and help you have a more attuned relationship together.

The workshop will include:

  • What is sensory play?
  • Why do sensory play?
  • How can I do sensory play with my child in a practical day to day way?
  • Making up a sensory box to use at home

What are the learning aims?

  • You will be inspired to play in different ways and will leave more confident in providing sensory activities to do with your child.
  • You will leave more confident in attuning to your child’s own unique sensory make up and needs.

How long is the training?

9.30am-12.30pm

Who can attend this training?

This workshop is for parents and carers; especially adoptive parents and foster carers. Please wear comfortable shoes and clothes to participate in some activities however there will be no pressure if there is an activity which you really don’t feel you can participate in. All materials and refreshments will be provided. The workshop will be experiential so come prepared to get on the floor and try out different textures and mediums.

Who are the trainers?

Ruth Stephens is our paediatric occupational therapist team lead and has been working as an OT with children for many years. She is an adoptive parent and has run toddler groups and sensory play sessions for children and families in the voluntary sector. Ruth is also trained in sensory attachment intervention under Éadaoin Bhreathnach.

What are your terms and conditions?

Courses are refundable up to 30 days prior to the date of the course. Any cancellation with less than 30 days notice are NON-REFUNDABLE. You may send a substitute delegate providing s/he meets the course criteria. We reserve the right to cancel the course date, in this case we will notify you by email as early as possible, and advise you of an alternative date or provide you with a full refund. In the event of a course cancellation under 7 days’ notice, a new course date or refund will be organised for you. Under no circumstances are Beacon House are liable for any travel expenses, childcare, potential loss of income or any associated costs.
