Improving the capacity to learn in traumatised children
Trainers: Kate Levy and Jo Charlton, Specialist Educational Psychologists in trauma and attachment
This training course aims to build an understanding of how early trauma affects a child’s developing brain, with particular focus on the impact of emotions, learning, behaviour and social skills within the school environment. The training draws on theories of attachment to build a framework for effective pastoral support and teaching strategies for children who are too frightened to learn.
Participants will leave the training with a greater understanding of trauma and attachment and its impact; skills in identifying children who are traumatised and a variety of creative and resourceful ideas about how to create a safe and effective learning space for traumatised children.
