Becoming an attachment-aware home
Trainer: Dr Laara Jupp or Dr Kathryn Whyte; Clinical Psychologists
All young people in residential children’s homes have experienced early disruptions to care and multiple placement breakdowns. They often experience “Developmental Trauma” which affects a wide range of areas, such as emotional expression, behaviour control, self-esteem, risk-taking behaviours, physical health, social relationships and mental health. Cares in children’s homes often feel de-skilled when facing challenging or risky behaviours. This workshop equips carers to understand the impact of the young person’s traumas on their behaviour. The training supports care teams to develop an attachment-informed approach to their young people, which improves relationships and reduces risky behaviour.
